Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement Plans: The Differences

Picture
Medicare Advantage plans are optional alternative health care insurance to the original Medicare. Medicare Supplement plans can only be consumed together with the original Medicare plan. Such information is the basic difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans. Below are the other differences between the two Medicare insurance coverages:
  1. Medicare Advantage Covers Medicare A and B
Medicare Advantage plans can disburse coverage for drug prescriptions. If you're covered by Medicare Advantage, you pay a premium, co-pay, and make a deductible payment. Such benefits let you save a lot of money monthly, without worrying about your health. In addition, Medicare Advantage is good for people who are hospitalized on a long-term basis.

  2. Medicare Supplement Fills the Gap
Medicare Supplement is also called Medigap. Medicare Supplement fills the gap from the coverage of the original Medicare. Now, Medicare Supplement insurance coverage pays for coinsurance, copayments, and deductible expenses. So if you lose your original Medicare coverage, Medicare Supplement is the fall back on.

  3. Medicare Advantage Covers People 65 or Older
Medicare Advantage plans let senior citizens save money while caring for their health. Unfortunately, not many government-provided Medicare coverages are accessible to senior citizens. Because of this, many seniors don't have any person or organization to rely on. When they encounter health crises. Remind your elderly loved ones to get Medicare Advantage plan coverages. As early as possible!

  4. The Company Sets the Premium in Medigap
Because of this, few people opt to get Medicare Supplement healthcare insurance plans. People get Medigap most of the time when they lose previous healthcare insurance. Get Medicare Supplement plan coverages. And make sure you can pay for the premium the company sets.

  5. Medigap May Have Greater Choices for Doctors
Because the premium that the company sets in Medigap may be costly, you may have more choices for doctors. It means that getting Medigap boosts the chances you swiftly become healthy and strong. You may not have to look for doctors having different specialties. Thanks to Medigap.

  6. Medicare Advantage May Require a Referral
Medicare Advantage plans may require a referral to see specialists. In addition, your medical history record is possibly stored in your Medicare Advantage plan profile.

Conclusion
It is always recommendable to opt-in to get Medicare Advantage Plans initially. And not Medigap plans. Medigap plans, though, defer you from becoming hopeless. These insurance plans are always available. In case you unexpectedly lose your Medicare Advantage plans.

Thanks for helping me understand that medicare supplements will be able to fill the gap from the coverage of the original medicare. I guess it would be best to talk to a professional regarding the coverage that we can get for my mom so that she will be secured when she retires. It will give us assurance that she will be able to get the treatment she needs without worrying about the payments or expenses.

It's helpful when you said that Medigap fills the gap from the coverage of the original Medicare as it now pays for coinsurance, copayments, and deductible expenses. My grandmother is looking at having a Medigap plan with prescription drug coverage, but she told me it's confusing which policy she should pick. I think the help of a Medicare supplement agent is necessary for this situation since Medigap plans are indeed confusing.

My mom is looking at retiring in just a few months, so she is looking carefully into Medicare and their supplement plans. After reading your information, I am thinking that she should consider the Advantage Medicare A and B. Since it covers prescriptions and she is diabetic, this can really help her in the long-run. I will suggest she seriously consider this one on our next visit.
